Worry less, Live More
- “Will I be able to afford the healthcare and medications I need?”
- “Do I have enough money saved to retire comfortably and weather any unexpected setbacks?”
- “Will I be able to adjust to a fixed income?”
You’ve got enough to worry about. If you’re planning for retirement or living on a fixed income, the last thing you want to think about is debt.
Unfortunately, there’s only so much money to go around. If you’re already worried about having enough money to continue living comfortably and staying independent for as long as possible, debt from credit cards, medical bills, and unsecured loans may feel like a burden you just can’t afford to face.
You are not alone!
As daunting as that financial transition into retirement may feel, help is available!

How does a Debt Management Plan work?
We create a plan that suits you. Everyone’s circumstances are different. To be truly successful, a good debt repayment plan needs to fit your goals and your reality. Following a thorough assessment of your financial situation, we create a repayment plan that’s tailored to your unique needs.
We work with your creditors. Most major creditors recognize that by working with a credit counseling agency like MMI you’re making an honest effort to repay your debts. In recognition of that, these creditors offer lower interest rates and other benefits for repaying through a DMP, making it much easier to get out of debt in a reasonable amount of time.
You make one payment a month. You make one payment to MMI every month, and we pay your creditors on your behalf. Most clients have their payments deducted automatically. You’ll continue to receive monthly statements from your creditors, as well as statements from MMI. Most DMPs are completed in less than five years.
Put your mind at ease
We promise to always be transparent and upfront about what’s happening and what it means, so please don’t ever hesitate to ask questions.
Will you talk to my creditors?
All of our counseling sessions are completely confidential. We don’t report anything to the credit bureaus. We will only contact your creditors if you decide to begin a DMP, in order to set up your repayment plan.
Will a DMP hurt my credit?
It’s important to know that any credit card accounts included on your DMP will be closed (so no new debt can be acquired). Because “available credit” is a factor in your credit score, you may see a dip in your score immediately after beginning your DMP. By the time you’ve completed your DMP, however, you will very likely see a dramatic improvement in your overall credit health as your debt is repaid in full and your accounts receive timely payments every month.
Are there any fees?
Debt and Budget Counseling comes with no fees and no obligations. A DMP typically includes a one-time set-up fee, as well as a monthly service fee. Fees are determined by the laws in your state of residence. Should you decide that a DMP feels like a good option for you, your counselor can provide a clearer picture of what your specific fees would be.
Can I include medical debt on a DMP?
Most healthcare providers accept payments through a DMP. Keep in mind, however, that most medical debt does not include any interest charges. So while you may include these debts for convenience, you won’t necessarily save money, as you would with most credit card accounts.
It's time to take action

Whatever it is that’s missing, don’t ignore that feeling. You owe it to yourself to see what the experts at MMI can do for you. We want you to have the best retirement possible. So let us help you get one step closer to the retirement you deserve.
